museum.

The Durham Western Heritage Museum was one of the places that Holly recommended we visit. She said it wouldn't take all day, only a few hours and that the kids would love it. She was right! This actually ended up being Corey's favorite place that we visited. He said he could have spent hours there!

I took a crazy amount of pictures here. So prepare yourself.  :)

Very cool model trains...

I loved the little town scene they had set up...

There was such a variety of exhibits. I promise I didn't take pictures of them all! :)

The little pink flowers on Gretchen's shoes are now gray. She crawled all over the place at this museum. After all those hours at the zoo, she was done with her stroller.

This was Sophie's favorite exhibit...

Her favorite dress...

Corey and Lawson moved pretty quickly through the dresses and spent more time in here...

Soil samples from all 50 states...

There weren't too many people while we were there. Gretchen literally just crawled around from exhibit to exhibit. Under them... between them... pulling up on everything. She was so good. (And got lots of smiles and sweet comments from strangers!)

There were several bronze statues like this set up in the museum lobby. (It's inside an old train depot.) When you approached them, they would start talking to each other.

Also in the depot... a candy shop and soda fountain!

Thanks so much for recommending this place, Holly! We really had a great time!

I'd forgottenI went there as a child with my family. Thanks for bringing back some memories! I would LOVE to go there again! The miniture houses and towns were my favorite part too!

you're welcome.

man...looking at these pictures has made me all teary eyed..literally.

I have thousands of pictures in those same exact spots.

I could smell the smells the memories are so deep (especially the zoo pictures and old market pictures)

p.s. you'll have to go to Omaha in the summer sometime, Spaghetti Works is WAY more fun then ;-)
