frog party.

We decided to start a party tradition with our little family last year. We'll do friend parties every other year. This year... it was just family parties. Grandma and Grandpa, Grandma Jones, Uncle Casey and Aunt Heather and Uncle Brian. A perfect little party group. The only thing that could make it better is if our Houston cousins could join us!

Lawson had requested a frog party this year. He was very specific... everyone needed to wear green or gray (because apparently he and Ezzie saw 2 gray frogs one day when they were walking home from 1/2 day kindergarten. And they weren't dead, because they threw rocks at them and they moved.)

He also wanted everyone to wear frog hats. Thank you, Jody for helping me figure out how to make them! They were adorable! (and all but 2 grown ups made and wore them. How did I not get a picture?!)

Someone is really, really happy to have her Grandma back from Houston...

Grandma Jones just got back from a fun trip to Germany with her friend. She brought us all back special gifts. Look how cool Lawson's is... he adores his bear aviator hat! (He's sleeping in it right now... because his head turns freezing cold at night.)

So many fun gifts, but this one from Mommy and Daddy was his favorite...

It's quite a bit bigger than the one he's used to, so Grandma and Grandpa got him a new helmet, just in case. (Do you have your kids wear helmets all the time? Honestly... we're bad about it. They haven't had helmets that fit for awhile. We need to do better about having them wear them.)

It didn't take this little guy long to get the hang of it, though...

Uncle Brian is such a good sport. Look at him proudly wearing his frog hat! Can you guess the two adults that didn't wear them?!

Gretchie toddled all around the driveway and Grandma managed to keep her from getting run over.

Perfect cupcakes for this little guy's frog party...

And his favorite green ice cream... (lime sherbet)

Before bed that night, Lawson listed off all his favorite parts of the evening:

* with Uncle Brian: playing video games on his phone
* with Aunt Heather: sitting next to her at supper
* with Grandma Jones: when she gave him his bear hat
* with Grandpa: making frog hats
* with Grandma: sitting on her lap
* with Mommy and Daddy: when we gave him his bike
* with Uncle Casey: "when he finally talked to me"

Sorry, Casey... that last one was just too funny. :)

I LOVE the cupcakes!!! My daughter's class's theme this year is frogs so I will steal this idea from you . . . tell me about how you made the eyes. Is that a marshmallow that you cut?
Lawson looked like he had so much fun! And I just have to say . . . your baby's eyelashes . . . wow!
Very nice party!

p.s.. You asked about helmets ... my daughter had a really bad bike accident so we ALWAYS wear helmets. She shattered her arm and it had to be pinned back together . . . we were just riding around the cul-de-sac. Anything can happen anytime. (my good friend's father was killed by falling off his bike and hitting his head on the street . . . just a leisurely ride)

Yes, Cheryl! It's a marshmallow cut into slices! We had lots of fun making them! Your daughter's class would love them!

Very cute party! Great ideas!

Helmets??? In California it's a law - for everyone, skateboarders, bikers, kids, adults. I freaked out when we moved here and saw people without helmets, especially adults who were riding bikes (motorcycles and bicycles) with kids with no helmets! Safety first!

Those cupcakes are the CUTEST!

I am a stickler about my kids wearing helmets when biking or scootering which is really weird when you know that I have NEVER owned or worn a bike helmet. Guess I need to set a better example!

Also, I took the kids to a one day ice skating class last week (spring break) and there was one kid whose mom put him in a helmet. Never heard of a helmet for ice skating, but I guess not a bad idea.

Cute cupcakes! Love the every other year party idea- we may need to seriously consider that especially since 3 kids have bdays in less than a months time. That equals lots of cake and lots of money:) And to make you feel better my kids don't have helmets. I know they should but Jerry insists he survived a childhood of riding bikes with no helmets! I keep saying I am going to get them some!

Happy birthday Lawson!

Can Gretchie Bug look any more like your mom?! I hadn't noticed that before.

This will probably not surprise you. I'm not a stickler about helmets. I should be. Hannah had a bad accident and broke her arm. It also had to be pinned back together - 2 surgeries. Eli was knocked off his bike and passed out in the street when he ran into the back of a wheat truck. The kids have helmets but we don't wear them. Bad mommy!

Cute Party -looks like you have fun planning it. So when is a good age to start having "friends" parties?

Amy - Lawson's "Frog" party looks like so much fun and I am a huge fan of his German bear hat - of course!

We did our first "friend parties" when the kids turned 5. Now we're on the odd years for friend parties. 5, 7, 9...
